The U.S. Small Business Administration recommends a marketing budget that is 7% to 8% of your gross revenue 

if your annual revenue is more than $5 million, and if your net profit margin is at 10% to 12%.

For lower revenue and net profit margin, then maybe 2% to 6% marketing budget will do.

The size of your marketing budget will fuel your marketing efforts, and so if you’re in a very competitive industry,

and most especially if you’re in the early stages of your business, then your budget should be around 20% if your annual gross revenue.
